Howard Bichard, Doornrandje
One of the most extraordinary things I’ve come across - a Weaver bird attacking a snake and finally knotting it around some thin branches. I was so intrigued with the process I did not think to video it. Finally the branch broke and the snake (looking quite dazed) slithered away.

I found this guy on our balcony. Looking in the insect guide it could be Proagoderus tersidorsis. Good old dung beetle.

Alison Vorster, Hills and Dales
We spotted two large eagle owls sitting on our garage roof, talking to one another. It was too dark to take a clear pic but there were two of them and they were beautiful. They are at our place almost every evening - one was right near an upstairs window.

Karin Schimmel, Hennops River
We’ve had a great time with a camera trap I got for my birthday - seeing which wild animals come visiting our property at night. This one shows a brown hyena and we’ve also seen kudu, reedbuck, steenbuck, jackal and duiker.

Corlette Wessels, Vlakfontein
Roadkill on the dirt road in Vlakfontein. So unnecessary.

Mirdia Snyman, “Jackal Diaries”, Kalkheuvel
Jackal tend to sleep in small grass domes during the day and this is the best one we have seen so far in our jackal research in the Kingdom of the Lion in Kalkheuvel . The recent cold weather has led to lots of snake activity - they are feeding more to get ready for the winter. We found this yellow-bellied sand-snake which was swallowing a skink it had caught.
