Iain Gunn: Schoemansville Oewer Interim Resolution

Iain Gunn Chairman Hartbeespoort Tourism Association

21 Dec 2015

At an urgent meeting today at the Schoemansville Owerclub that was called by the North West Tourism Board it was decided that the 3 commercial boat operators that had received cancellation letters may continue to trade at the Schoemansville Owerclub until the 15 January 2016. An advocate from North West Tourism  was present to listen to all the parties complaints. The mention of who owns the land and who owns the water and the commercial rights will be investigated in the new year by a committee that will be appointed .Mr Graeme Peplar the chairman of the Owerclub agreed that the pleasure boats can operate as of today and that any pre bookings made before and including the 6th December will be honoured at the rates quoted. All new business will have to pay the full rate entering the property ,a suggestion to use one side of the Ower was discussed and I firmly believe that this could have been amicably resolved months ago. The SABC news team recorded some footage and interviewed a few people so it will possibly be aired on one of the news channels.

I would like to thank North West Tourism for their intervention, Mr Graeme Pepler for his commitment towards tourism and the  assistance of many more in getting this resolved during the festive season.
