Encounter The Crocodile River Reserve
The Crocodile River Reserve hosts the annual mountain bike event "Ride the Rhenoster".  It is a popular ride, with plenty of challenge even though it is not a race.  The Ride is a fundraiser, to support the conservation effort of private land owners, protecting the region south of Schurveberg and between the R511 and R512.

"This year we are raising the bar.  The weekend of 10 and 11 September will offer something special for visitors, trail runners, hikers, mountain bikers, children and ....well, just anyone who loves nature", says Mercia Komen, chairperson of the Crocodile River Reserve.

There is Ride the Rhenoster on SUNDAY (11th)- the usual short (~20km) and long (~40km) distances - tough, technically challenging, lots of "climb".  The Riders themselves always comment that it tough. Some complain, most do so with a touch of pride that they have done it.

On SATURDAY (10th) the first trail run takes place.  It is a non-competitive run of 5km or 15km, with a variety or track and terrain.
Artist from GreenMountain enjoying the Crocodile River Reserve

"Both days we have an amazing, generous and inspiring group of artists working  in the veld" says Fransa Cole, landowner in the Reserve.  Artists working under the collective banner of "GreenMountain" are local and international (a roving team from Korea), renowned for their Land Art.  This form of art works with the environment, creating exhibits of varying scale that remain in place and decay back to the earth.  The art is created with found material. The artisist have been visiting, walking, soaking up the sense of place, and many have already lost their hearts to this space....

For young people there is a 5km fun ride, and the chance to make their own land art under supervision/guidance.  There is a safe space for families to gather, and also a shuttle to take those who don't want to walk to and from the various installation sites.

Food and beverages will be on sale.  Mercia says "Hennops primary school is our partner again, using the opportunity to do some fund raising of their own.  We love the partnership".  Delicious gourmet ice cream pops on sale  - it is Spring!
