Five armed robbers hit a clothing store at Village Mall in Hartbeespoort on Monday afternoon, holding staff members at gunpoint while looting tills and over 100 cellphones from the shop.
“The robbers entered the Markhams clothing store at around 17:50, posing as customers. One then pulled out a firearm and ordered the three staff members to cooperate. The staff members were forced into the back of the store and tied up with cable ties after which the suspects rifled the tills, taking an undisclosed amount of money, as well as 122 cellphones from the storeroom,” said Romano van der Spuy, chairman of the Hartbeespoort community policing forum.
The suspects fled the scene without shoppers in the centre being aware of the robbery.
“At this stage there is no information of the getaway vehicle,” he said. The Hartbeespoort police are investigating the robbery.
